What is the scale for washing fastness?

2023-09-12 10:51

The scale for washing fastness is a standardized system used to classify the resistance of colorants on textiles to fading or bleeding during washing. The most commonly used scale for washing fastness is the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) scale, which ranges from 1 to 5, with additional ratings of 1/2 and 5/6 in some cases. The ratings on the ISO scale indicate the level of color change or transfer that occurs during the washing process:

- Grade 5: No color change or transfer

- Grade 4: Slight color change or transfer

- Grade 3: Moderate color change or transfer

- Grade 2: Considerable color change or transfer

- Grade 1: Severe color change or transfer

- Grade 1/2: Slight color change or transfer (between grades 1 and 2)

- Grade 5/6: No color change or transfer, even after additional treatments (higher than grade 5)

It's important to note that different industries or standards may have their own variations of the washing fastness scale, but the ISO scale is widely recognized and used.
