Are there any other test methods besides the Gurley method and the Frazier method?

Besides the Gurley method and the Frazier method, there are other test methods available to assess the air permeability of non-woven fabrics. Here are a few additional test methods commonly used in the industry:

1. ISO 9237: This International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard provides a method for determining the air permeability of textiles, including non-woven fabrics. The test apparatus consists of a circular test area with a defined diameter. The sample is clamped over the test area, and a constant air pressure differential is applied. The air flow passing through the sample is measured, and the air permeability is calculated based on the flow rate and the sample area.

2. ASTM D737: This ASTM International standard outlines a test method for determining the air permeability of textile fabrics, including non-woven fabrics. The test apparatus typically consists of a circular opening with a specified diameter. The sample is placed over the opening, and a controlled air pressure is applied. The air flow rate passing through the sample is measured, and the air permeability is calculated based on the flow rate and the sample area.

3. JIS L 1096: This Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) provides a test method for determining the air permeability of woven and non-woven fabrics. The apparatus used for this test is similar to the Gurley densometer, where a circular sample is clamped between two clamping rings with an orifice. A constant air pressure differential is applied, and the time taken for a specific volume of air to pass through the sample is recorded. The air permeability is calculated based on the recorded time and the sample area.

4. DIN 53887: This German standard specifies a method for determining the air permeability of textiles, including non-woven fabrics. The test apparatus consists of a circular test area with a defined diameter. The sample is clamped over the test area, and a constant air pressure differential is applied. The air flow passing through the sample is measured, and the air permeability is calculated based on the flow rate and the sample area.

These are just a few examples of additional test methods for assessing the air permeability of non-woven fabrics. It's important to note that different industries and regions may have their own specific testing standards or variations of these methods. When conducting air permeability testing, it is recommended to refer to the relevant standards applicable to your specific product or market to ensure accurate and consistent testing procedures.
