The TABER ABRASION TESTER is used for abrasion tests on leather, fabric, paint, paper, tiles, plywood, glass, natural rubber, etc. The test is carried out by cutting the test piece with a standard cutter, using a specified type of abrasive wheel and applying a certain weight to the abrasion, removing the test piece after a specified number of revolutions and observing the condition of the test piece after abrasion or the difference between the weight of the test piece before the test and the weight of the test piece after the test.

Preparation for the test

Before the test, the instrument must be connected to the power supply and a hoover must be connected to the exhaust port.

Accessories and other equipment: a pair of standard grinding wheels, double-sided tape (hard), fine sandpaper (for calibration). According to the requirements of different standards also need to prepare 0.1mg precision balance, fabric strength machine, appearance evaluation light box, etc., to evaluate the test results.

Specimen: cut to about 110mm and leave a hole of 8mm in the middle; if you need to compare the weight change before and after the specimen, you need to weigh the original weight of the specimen in advance (if the specimen is a fabric that needs to be fixed with double-sided tape, you need to remove the outer sticker after sticking the standard double-sided tape and weigh the total weight); if you need to compare the strength change before and after the specimen, you need to test its original strength before the test; compare other properties such as haze before the test. Other properties such as haze must be tested before the test to determine the original parameters. The specimen must be pre-wetted for at least 8h.

Adjusting speed: after power is applied, start the apparatus with both arms raised and adjust the speed knob to the required speed according to the digital display.

Test procedure

Clamping of the specimen

Place the cut specimen on the test bench according to the standard requirements.

Keep the specimen flat, tighten the compression nut and spacer and fasten the specimen fixing ring with a hexagonal spanner.

Clamping the abrasive wheel and weights

Attach the pre-ground standard wear wheel to the inside of the front of the balance arm and tighten the compression nut.

Clamp the corresponding weights or balance weights according to the required pressure.

Attach the grinding wheels of the appropriate size according to the specifications of the corresponding standards for the different materials to be tested.

Start up

Turn on the power switch.

Set the preset number of revolutions on the counter.

Press the start button and the motor drives the turntable to start rotating.

Notes.

1. The grinding wheel needs to be replaced when it has been ground to a sticker or the surface of the wheel is not flat.

2. The grinding wheel should be cleaned with a brush before each sample is measured.

Evaluation of specimen results

After reaching a predetermined number of revolutions, the instrument stops automatically or, depending on the requirements of the standard, the end of the test is determined by pressing the red stop button to stop the test and switch off the hoover. The specimen is removed for evaluation.
