The halogen compounds currently used in products are mainly flame retardants, such as PBB, PBDE, TBBP-A, PCB, hexabromodedecane, tribromophenol, and short chain chlorinated paraffin;
Ozone depleting substances used as refrigerants and insulation materials, such as CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, as well as fire extinguishing agents, cleaning agents, pesticide insecticides, bleaches, wool degreasers, etc.
Detailed content of ROHS halogen standard
The halogen group elements refer to the periodic VIIa group elements. Halogens include fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and astatine (At).
Among them, astatine (At) is a radioactive element that is almost non-existent in the product, while the first four elements exist in the form of organic compounds in the product, especially in polymer materials.
The halogen compounds currently used in products are mainly flame retardants:
PBB, PBDE, TBBP-A, PCB, hexabromodedecane, tribromophenol, short chain chlorinated paraffin; Ozone depleting substances used as refrigerants and insulation materials: CFCs, HCFCs, HFCs, etc.
Brominated flame retardants such as PBB, PBDE, and TBBPA are currently widely used in the electronic and electrical industry, including circuit boards, computers, fuel cells, televisions, and printers.
Different products have different limit standards: printed circuit boards, circuit substrates, laminated boards, etc. Br less than 900PPM, Cl less than 900PPM, Br+Cl less than 1500PPM. Other non-metallic materials have Br less than 1000PPM and Cl less than 1000PPM.
The EU's ROHS Directive, 76/769/EEC, Norway's POHS, and relevant regulations in various states of the United States all restrict certain halogenated compounds for Br and Cl.
