Kazakhstan's Cotton Production Expected to Fall 17% in 2023
Kazakhstan expects the 2023 cotton harvest to be 17% lower than the previous year, a government news agency reported on 22 September, according to a foreign news agency.
"Cotton production in 2022 was 362,000 tonnes, and about 300,000 tonnes are expected to be harvested this year. Harvesting activities will begin in late September," the report was released after a government meeting.
The only region in Kazakhstan where cotton is grown is the Turkestan region.
A government official said, "Since last year, the industry has been under strong pressure from negative external factors, including the inability of the previous logistics chain to transport cotton for export, low demand for Kazakhstani raw materials from foreign traders, and low raw material prices on the stock exchange."
