How to calculate the compressive modulus of elasticity in ASTM D575-91 standard test method?

2023-08-18 13:22

According to the ASTM D575-91 standard test method, the compressive modulus of elasticity can be calculated by the following formula:

Compressive modulus of elasticity = ΔP / (A * Δh)

- ΔP is the change in compressive force applied to the sample during the compression test (units of force such as N or lbf).

- A is the initial cross-sectional area of the sample (in square lengths, eg mm² or in²).

- Δh is the amount of compressive deformation of the sample during the compression test (in length, eg mm or in).

To calculate the compressive modulus of elasticity, measure and record the change in the applied compressive force (ΔP), the initial cross-sectional area of the sample (A), and the compressive deformation during the compression test (Δh).

Note that the calculation formulas provided above are for the ASTM D575-91 standard. There may be slightly different calculations for newer standard editions or other related standards. Therefore, it is recommended that you refer to the latest version of the ASTM D575 standard for accurate calculation methods and parameter requirements.
