There are several equipment options available for testing the abrasion of aggregate. The most commonly used equipment for this purpose is the Los Angeles Abrasion Testing Machine, which follows the ASTM C131/C131M standard. This machine subjects coarse aggregates to abrasion, impact, and grinding in a rotating steel drum, simulating the wear that aggregates may experience in various applications.
Another equipment option is the Deval Abrasion Testing Machine, which follows the ASTM D6928/D6928M standard. This machine measures the resistance to abrasion of fine and coarse aggregates using an abrasive charge and an impact cylinder.
Other equipment used for testing aggregate abrasion include the Micro-Deval Testing Machine (ASTM D7428/D7428M), the Nordic Abrasion Machine (EN 1097-2), and the Aggregate Abrasion Value (AAV) machine (BS 812-3). These machines vary in their testing methods and specifications, but they all aim to evaluate the resistance of aggregates to abrasion.
When selecting an equipment for testing aggregate abrasion, it is important to consider the relevant standards, the specific requirements of the project or specification, and the availability of the equipment in your region or laboratory.
