The British Fashion Council announced on the 7th that the 2023 London Fashion Week, which is scheduled to open on the 14th, will completely ban the use of fur, becoming the world's first well-known fashion week to abandon fur.
The British Fashion Council issued a statement saying that the association previously launched a questionnaire survey to designers participating in London Fashion Week, asking them whether they would use fur. The results show that designers will not use animal fur on the runways of London Fashion Week this year.
The statement said: "As the representative of the British fashion industry, the British Fashion Council supports the creativity of designers while encouraging them to make ethical choices in the selection of materials and supply chains."
In recent years, international fashion weeks have encountered demonstrations by animal activists, protesting against the use of real fur by fashion designers. At the same time, more and more international fashion brands have announced to abandon animal fur products and switch to artificial fur. For example, Burberry, a well-known British clothing brand, has announced the implementation of a "no fur" policy to phase out fur products.
The BFC's decision was welcomed by animal protection groups. But those who support the fur industry believe that artificial fur may bring new environmental pollution problems, because factories need to extract chemicals from fossil fuels and make nylon and polyester fibers to produce artificial fur. This process will have a negative impact on the environment. .
Together with New York, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks, London Fashion Week is known as the world's four major fashion weeks, known for its innovation and vitality.
