What other test methods are available to evaluate the combustion performance of materials?

2023-06-05 13:55

In addition to the vertical and horizontal flame tests and the 12-second vertical flammability test, there are other test methods that can evaluate a material's burning performance. Here are some of these common testing methods:

1. Oxygen Index Test

This test method measures the minimum oxygen concentration at which a material will burn in a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen. This value is called the oxygen index. The higher the oxygen index, the higher the oxygen concentration required for the material to burn and therefore the better its combustion performance.

2. Heat release rate test:

This test method measures the heat released by materials during combustion, and is usually used to evaluate the combustion performance of building materials. The test results can describe the rate and intensity of the combustion process, as well as harmful substances such as smoke and poisonous gas produced after combustion.

3. Smoke density test:

This test method measures the density of smoke produced by materials during combustion, and is usually used to evaluate the combustion performance of building materials. The test results can describe the rate and density of smoke production, as well as the harmful substances produced during the combustion process.

4. Smoke toxicity test:

This test method measures the toxicity of smoke generated by materials during combustion, and is usually used to evaluate the combustion performance of materials such as building materials, electrical equipment, and automotive interiors. The test results can describe the types and concentrations of harmful substances in the smoke, as well as the impact of harmful substances produced during the combustion process on the human body.

In short, evaluating the combustion performance of materials requires a comprehensive evaluation combining multiple testing methods. Different test methods can evaluate the combustion performance of materials from different angles for correct material selection and safety assessment.
